Man City Dealt Champions League Seeding Blow

manciniManchester City’s inability to qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League continues to haunt them, as it looks like City will be once again seeded as a number 3 seed for next season’s Champions League draw.

After failing to pick up a win and finishing bottom of Group D below Borussia Dortmund, Real Madrid and Ajax, Man City have dropped to 22nd in UEFA’s coefficient rankings and will be seeded in the third pot in the draw for the group stages on August 29.

That opens up the possibility that City will be in another group of death with the likes of Bayern Munich/Barcelona, Juventus/PSG and Ajax.

Ironically, City’s best chance of getting a number two seed is Tottenham can finish in the top four and deny Chelsea or Arsenal (both number one seeds) a place in the Champions League next season.

UEFA’s club coefficient rankings are based on the results of clubs competing in the past five seasons in the Champions League and Europa League.
