Real Madrid With Massive Clasico Win

El Clasico In USA 2020

Real Madrid have returned to the top of La Liga thanks to a late 2-0 win over rivals Barcelona in tight El Clasico clash at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Vinicius Junior and Mariano Diaz’s goals took them a point clear of their bitter rivals at the top of the Liga table and gave them the better head-to-head record, which could be crucial in such a tight title race.

Certainly, there is little to choose between the two teams, as Sunday’s game showed. This entertaining, end-to-end battle at the Santiago Bernabeu between two clearly flawed teams could have gone either way.

Barcelona 2-2 Real Madrid: Barca Cling To Unbeaten La Liga Record

Cristiano Ronaldo twisted an ankle and had to come off at half-time in a bad-tempered Clasico just three weeks before the Champions League final against Liverpool.

However, Gareth Bale stepped into his shoes and scored the goal that earned Real Madrid a point after both Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi had scored for Barcelona.

It was some night for Bale who could have been sent off in the first half and was finally booked in the second period, but only after he had reminded everyone of his ability to deliver spectacular goals on big occasions.

Both big money summer signings Gareth Bale and Neymar both made their Clásico debuts, and it was the Brazilian who had the biggest impact on the game when his shot picked out the bottom-right corner through a crowd of Madrid defenders in the 19th minute. Bale on the other hand was probably Madrid’s poorest player and was substituted in the second half.

Messi 2 Ronaldo 2 In El Clasico Draw

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo matched each other blow for blow at the Nou Camp tonight, scoring two goals apiece as Barcelona and Real Madrid battled out an entertaining draw in the first Clasico of the La Liga season.

Heading into the game, Real Madrid trailed Barcelona by eight points, so this was billed as must-win win for the champions. Like they did when the two sides met in the Supercopa de España earlier this year, Madrid started off the better of the two sides and made the breakthrough midway through the first half when Ronaldo beat Víctor Valdés at his near post. When Karim Benzema sliced a shot onto the post and right-back Daniel Alves limped off, Barcelona looked there for the taking.

El Clásico Preview: Mourinho With Selection Dilemma

This weekend’s El Clasico might be Jose Mourinho’s most important game since his arrival at Real Madrid. Barcelona already have an eight point lead in La Liga, and a win on Sunday over their bitter rivals will give then an unassailable 11 point lead and end Real Madrid’s title aspirations.

So what will José Mourinho’s line-up be against Barcelona? The dilemma faced by the ‘Special One’ is which of his three playmakers to go with. One month ago people’s money would have been on either Mesut Özil or Luka Modric, but Kaká is now also in the frame. In a survey conducted by MARCA.COM, 68% of the club’s fans voted for the Brazilian. However, Mourinho seems to be stuck between two options: Modric or Özil.
