Copa America Moved To Brazil

The 2021 Copa America will be hosted by Brazil, after Argentina was stripped of the tournament just two weeks before it starts.

The South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) said Argentina was removed as host because of the “present circumstances”. Argentina is currently experiencing a surge in Covid-19 cases.

“Conmebol thanks the president @jairbolsonaro and his team, as well as the Brazilian Football Confederation for opening the doors of that country to what is today the safest sporting event in the world. South America will shine in Brazil with all its stars!” Conmebol said on Twitter.

FIFA Postpones South American World Cup Qualifiers

FIFA has postponed South American qualifying matches for the 2022 Qatar World Cup after a request from the region’s football federation amid concerns over the spread of coronavirus.

,A statement from the sport’s world governing body read:

“Following consultation with CONMEBOL, FIFA has decided to postpone the upcoming South American qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 as follows:

“Matches originally scheduled to take place during the international window of 23-31 March 2020 are postponed to later dates
Details of the postponed matches will be discussed and announced soon

Messi Finally Wins Trophy With Argentina

Lionel Messi ended his wait for a first major international title as Argentina beat Brazil in the Copa America final in Rio’s Maracana stadium.

Messi, 34, dropped to the ground in joy at the full-time whistle and was swiftly mobbed by his team-mates, before being hurled in the air in celebration, as he finally claimed top-level honors with his country in his 10th major tournament.

He also helped end Argentina’s 28-year spell since they last won the competition and was named player of the tournament after his four goals in the competition.

Icardi Thrilled To Score First Goal For Argentina

The wait is finally over for Mauro Icardi, who scored his first international goal for Argentina in Tuesday’s 2-0 win over Mexico.

The 25-year-old was playing in his eighth match for his senior national side and, despite being a lethal scorer for Inter Milan at the club level, was still searching for his first goal for the Albiceleste.

He wouldn’t have to wait long.

Inside the first two minutes Icardi had his side in front, taking down a long pass from Erik Lamela and cutting back on his left foot between two defenders before slotting home.

Argentina Fires Jorge Sampaoli

The Argentina Football Association has finally done what its fans have been clamoring for and fired head coach Jorge Sampaoli following La Albiceleste’s dreadful World Cup campaign.

“Today, the Argentine Football Association and the former national team coach, Jorge Sampaoli, have mutually agreed to the termination of their contract,” the AFA stated via their official website on Sunday.

“Likewise, the Physical Trainer, Jorge Desio and the video analyst, Matías Manna, also disassociated themselves.”

The AFA also announced that they will decide who takes charge of the Under-20 side for the 2018 COTIF tournament, which is set to begin on July 28, by Tuesday.

Messi Trial Dates Altered So He Can Play In Copa America

Messi-ArgentinaGood news for USA soccer fans as the date for Lionel Messi’s tax fraud trial has been reset to allow him to play in this summer’s Copa America tournament.

The trial had been scheduled to begin on June 7 would have seen Messi at least miss Argentina’s opening group game against reigning champions Chile in Santa Clara on June 6.

However, a judicial source said on Wednesday that the trial would start as scheduled on May 31 after a “misunderstanding” regarding the dates without offering further details.
