Inter Milan Win First Title In 11 Years

Inter Milan have won their first Serie A title in 11 years after second-placed Atalanta drew with Sassuolo. The Milan giants are 13 points clear after Saturday’s win at Crotone with four games to go.

Inter finished second to Juventus by a point last season, but Antonio Conte has ended Juve’s run of nine straight titles in his second season in charge.

It is Inter’s first Scudetto since Jose Mourinho won both Serie A and the Champions League in 2010.

The title is Conte’s fourth Serie A title, after winning the league in three consecutive seasons during his spell as manager of Juventus between 2011 and 2014.

European Super League

The European Super League has been officially suspended after all six English clubs formally withdrew from the ill-fated venture.

On another dramatic night when Chelsea fans staged a mass protest outside Stamford Bridge before their Premier League clash with Brighton, Manchester City and Chelsea began the process of killing off the rebel league less than 48 hours after its launch by pulling out late in the afternoon, putting huge pressure on the other 10 founder members to follow suit, as they held crisis talks over their exit strategies.

European Super League: What We Know So Far

European Super League

The European Super League has been announced by 12 of the biggest clubs in Europe, and the competition could begin as early as August 2021.

The clubs that announced the Super League have left ECA and its President Andrea Agnelli resigned, becoming the Super League vice president along with Manchester United’s co-chairman Joel Glazer and Liverpool’s John Henry. Real Madrid Chairman Florentino Perez has been named Super League President.

UEFA Respond With Anger At Super League Plans

European Super League

UEFA has responded to the news of the European Super League with president Alexander Ceferin promising to punish participants in the Super League and says that any players involved “will be banned from the World Cup and Euros”.

The announcement of a new European competition that would see a number of top clubs break away from the Champions League has been met with fierce opposition over the past 24 hours.

UEFA has now revealed its stance, with Ceferin calling for the football world to rally against the “cynical plan” that is threatening to cause huge division across the continent’s major leagues.

Inter Milan Miss Loan Payment To Manchester United

Lukaku Inter MIlan

I wrote earlier this week about the financial troubles that Inter Milan’s Chinese owners are in. Inter owe over €200m in transfer fees to other clubs, with their biggest debt being too Manchester United for the signing of Romelu Lukaku back in 2019.

Inter still owe United over €50m for Lukaku, and it appears that they have failed to make a €5m bonus payment to the Premier League side.

According to Italian outlet Il Corriere dello Sport, that missed payment has triggered a clause in the contract that states that Inter need to pay outstanding fee in full by March 31. The problem is that Inter does not have €50m. They obviously don’t even have €5m!

Inter Milan Owners In Financial Trouble

Inter Milan Transfer Debt

Inter Milan’s owners Suning Group have halted operations at its Chinese football clubs due to financial jeopardy – in a bombshell move which plunges the future of the Serie A giants into uncertainty.

An announcement from the company last week announced that the Chinese Super League champions would no longer be in existence:

“Due to the overlapping of various uncontrollable elements, we have to announce with great regret that Jiangsu will cease operation of teams at all levels while continuing to seek, in a wider scope, interested parties for the future development of the club,” Suning announced on Weibo.

Alexis Sanchez publicly SLAMMED by Antonio Conte

Alexis Sanchez Inter MIlan

Antonio Conte has publicly called out under-performing striker Alexis Sanchez by insisting ‘his numbers must be better.’

Conte has drawn attention to Sanchez’s lack of goalscoring following Inter Milan’s Coppa Italian semi-final first leg defeat to bitter rivals Juventus.

The Italian boss cut a frustrated figure on the touchline as he was defeated by his former club, courtesy of a Cristiano Ronaldo brace.

Sanchez filled in for the absent talisman Romelu Lukaku, but failed to find the back of the net and give his side the added impetus it desperately needed.

Christian Eriksen’s Free-Kick Sees Inter Win Milan Derby

MIlan Derby

Inter Milan are through to the Coppa Italia semi-finals thanks to a stunning injury-time free-kick by Christian Eriksen.

Eriksen stepped up in the 96th minute to curl home into the top corner to complete a comeback victory for Inter against their bitter rivals AC Milan in what was an ill-tempered affair that saw Zlatan Ibrahimovic sent off for AC Milan.

Ibra had put the Serie A leaders ahead in the first half but his dismissal after the break saw Inter pile on the pressure – and they equalzsed through a Romelu Lukaku penalty on 71 minutes before Eriksen’s stunner.

Inter Dominate Juventus In Derby D’Italia Win

Juventus v Inter

Inter dealt a blow to JuventusSerie A title defence and moved level on points with leaders Milan by securing a 2-0 victory at San Siro on Sunday.

Former Juve midfielder Arturo Vidal opened his Inter account with a 12th-minute header and Lautaro Martinez and Romelu Lukaku wasted chances to increase the Nerazzurri’s lead.

The Bianconeri were unable to make the most of those reprieves as an emphatic finish at the end of a route-one move saw Nicolo Barella double Inter’s advantage.

Serie A 2020-21 Fixtures Released

Serie A Fixtures With Ball

The 2020-2021 Serie A fixtures list has been released and Andrea Pirlo’s first league match in charge of Juventus will be at home to Sampdoria as he looks to guide the club to a record 10th successive Serie A title.

Juventus start at home to Sampdoria before a daunting trip to the Stadio Olimpico to take on Roma. For Inter Milan, who look set to be Juventus’ toughest challenger for the title, they begin their bid away to newly-promoted Benevento.

The release sparked lots of interest in when Pirlo and Conte will go head to head but fans will have to remain patient with the first meeting not until January 2021.
