Seattle Sounders Sign Jordan Morris

While New England Revolution fans are waiting for the naming of their recently signed Designated Player, the Seattle Sounders have been busy signing arguably the best American soccer player anywhere.

On Thursday the Sounders officially unveiled Jordan Morris, the 21-year-old reigning Hermann Trophy winner and U.S. national team member, as their newest Homegrown Player signing.

Morris, who joined the Sounders FC Academy in 2012 before then moving on to play college soccer for Stanford over the past three years, turned down an offer from Bundesliga club Werder Bremen in order to return to Seattle earlier this week.

Sounders Fans Pay Tribute To Kasey Keller

Wanted to out some perspective on the 64,000 Seattle Sounders fans who came out for Kasey Keller’s farewell game.

The Seattle Sounders crowd was the fourth largest crowd to watch a soccer match anywhere in the world on Saturday night. Only FC Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich had larger attendances.

And this was not a one-off attendance in Seattle as the Sounders have averaged 36,893 fans a game this season. By comparison, only 8 of the 20 Premier League sides have averaged more fans this season than Seattle and only 5 of the 20 La Liga sides.

Seattle Sounders Acquire All-Star defender Tyrone Marshall

The expansion Seattle Sounders have acquired two-time All-Star defender Tyrone Marshall from Toronto FC for cash. The Sounders announced the deal Tuesday. It will bring the 34-year-old member of the Jamaican national team to Seattle for his 12th season in MLS.

Sounders coach Sigi Schmid says he values Marshall for his speed and his championship experience. Marshall was on the Los Angeles Galaxy’s MLS title teams in 2002 and ’05. Los Angeles traded him to Toronto midway through the 2007 season.

This is a great addition for Seattle, who are poised to have the best season of any MLS expansion team.

Seattle Sounders Get New Sponsor

Seattle Sounders FC which will begin playing in Major League Soccer team in the 2009 season has snagged Microsoft to be their naming sponsor. The sponsorship deal is for deal for five years and a reported $20 million. The Microsoft Xbox 360 Live brand will be prominently displayed on the front of the Sounders’ green and blue jerseys

This is a big deal for MLS to involve a corporate sponsor the size of Microsoft in MLS and I beelive reflects the impact that David Beckham has had on raising awareness of soccer in corporate America.
