Hilarious Trash Talking Between Messi And Suarez Before Argentina v Uruguay Match

trash-talkingArgentina beat Uruguay 1-0 in their World Cup qualifier in Mendoza last night, with Leo Messi scoring the winner.

It was Messi’s first game back with Argentina after he infamously announced he was retiring from international football in the wake of Argentina’s Copa America final defeat to Chile this summer.

Having lost three finals with the national team (another Copa America final and the World Cup final), Messi felt he could no longer take the trauma, and felt that it was best for everyone that he walked away, as if he was cursed or something.

Suarez Expected To Make Uruguay Copa America Squad Despite Injury

suarez-goalBad news for Uruguay heading into the Copa America tournament next month is that star striker Luis Suarez pulled his hamstring during Barcelona’s 2-0 win over Sevilla in the Copa del Rey at the weekend.

Suarez left the field in tears as it was feared that he would the tournament but that does not seem to be the case after Barcelona released this statement today:

Tests on Monday morning have confirmed that FC Barcelona striker Luis Suárez has suffered an injury to the semimembranosus muscle in his right leg. Following the recommendations of the Club’s medical services team, the 2015/16 Golden Shoe winner will begin his rehabilitation in Barcelona. On 1 June, Suárez will join the Uruguay national team in the United States, where he’ll continue with the second phase of his recovery.

Suarez-bites-againUruguay and Liverpool were both stunned today when FIFA announced that Luis Suarez had been suspended from all football-related activity for four months for biting Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini.

The Premier League’s player of the year will miss the rest of the World Cup and well as at least the first nine games of the Premier League season plus three Champions League matches.

Such behaviour cannot be tolerated on any football pitch and, in particular, not at a Fifa World Cup when the eyes of millions of people are on the stars on the field,” Claudio Sulser, chairman of the Fifa disciplinary committee, said in a statement.

Suarez Bite Overshadows Uruguay Win

Suarez-bites-againDiego Godin’s late goal gave Uruguay a 1-0 win over 10-man Italy, a result that saw them advance to the knockout stages, but the match was overshadowed by an incident in which Luis Suarez took a bite out of Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini.

Suarez, who served lengthy bans for biting opponents while playing for both Ajax and Liverpool, clashed with Chiellini in the 79th minute. Television replays showed Suarez moving his head towards Chiellini who responded by swinging an arm, before chasing the referee to apparently insist he had been bitten on his shoulder.

Confederations Cup Draw: Brazil v Italy and Spain v Uruguay

The draw for next summer’s Confederations Cup was made in Sao Paulo today and it set up some interesting matches.

The Confederations Cup takes place in Brazil on 15-30 June 2013 when hosts Brazil line up in Group A with Japan, Mexico and Italy. While Spain, Uruguay and Tahiti will be joined in Group B by the champions of Africa, whose identity will be revealed after next February’s CAF Africa Cup of Nations final.

The first match for Luiz Felipe Scolari’s Brazil side will be against Japan on 15 June at Brasilia’s Estadio Nacional.

As focus shifted to major international matches taking place this weekend, it was a different scenario in South America as the continent began the tedious qualification process for the Brazil 2014 World Cup finals.

Uruguay Beats Paraguay 3-0 In Copa America Final

Two goals by Diego Forlan and another from Luis Suarez helped Uruguay win the Copa America for a record 15th time as they beat Paraguay 3-0.

Suarez gave Uruguay the lead in a match it dominated in the opening minutes. Receiving a pass in the area, the Liverpool forward beat defender Dario Veron to score from a deflected left-footed shot that went in off the far post behind ‘keeper Justo Villar.

Uruguay could have even have led in the second minute, when Villar stopped Diego Lugano’s point-blank header.

There is a huge club v country brawl brewing at the Copa America’s as Napoli president Antonio De Laurentiis has warned Uruguay he is prepared to take strong action if they risk the health of Edinson Cavani.

Cavaini, who picked up a knee injury in the group stages, has seen his Uruguay side reach the finals of this year’s Copa America and reports in Uruguay say that they are considering bringing him back into the side for Sunday’s final against Paraguay.

Two goals from Liverpool striker Luis Suarez within 5 minutes in the second half was enough to see Uruguay beat Peru 2-0 on Tuesday and move into the Copa America final.

Uruguay, which reached the semifinals of last year’s World Cup, will be looking for a record-15th Copa America title in Sunday’s final against either Paraguay or Venezuela, which meet in the other semifinal Wednesday in Mendoza. The final will be played Sunday in Buenos Aires.
