Premier League Clubs Brexit Super League

European Super League

The European Super League has been officially suspended after all six English clubs formally withdrew from the ill-fated venture.

On another dramatic night when Chelsea fans staged a mass protest outside Stamford Bridge before their Premier League clash with Brighton, Manchester City and Chelsea began the process of killing off the rebel league less than 48 hours after its launch by pulling out late in the afternoon, putting huge pressure on the other 10 founder members to follow suit, as they held crisis talks over their exit strategies.

UEFA Respond With Anger At Super League Plans

European Super League

UEFA has responded to the news of the European Super League with president Alexander Ceferin promising to punish participants in the Super League and says that any players involved “will be banned from the World Cup and Euros”.

The announcement of a new European competition that would see a number of top clubs break away from the Champions League has been met with fierce opposition over the past 24 hours.

UEFA has now revealed its stance, with Ceferin calling for the football world to rally against the “cynical plan” that is threatening to cause huge division across the continent’s major leagues.

European Super League Officially Announced

European Super League

The idea of a European Super League has been rumored for years. But on Sunday those rumors became reality when twelve of Europe’s top clubs announced they were launching a breakaway Super League.

AC Milan, Arsenal FC, Atletico Madrid, Chelsea, Barcelona, Internazionale, Juventus, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur have all joined as founding clubs.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez said:

“We will help football at every level and take it to its rightful place in the world. Football is the only global sport in the world with more than four billion fans and our responsibility as big clubs is to respond to their desires.”

Winners And Losers From January Transfer Window

January Transfer Window

Another January transfer window has come and gone. This one though lacked the fireworks of previous windows due to the ongoing impact that COVID-19 is having on the finances of football clubs around the world.

The lack of money does not mean that some clubs improved themselves during the window, while the lack of activity was a nightmare for some.

Here is a look at the winners and losers from the past month of transfer business

Christian Eriksen’s Free-Kick Sees Inter Win Milan Derby

MIlan Derby

Inter Milan are through to the Coppa Italia semi-finals thanks to a stunning injury-time free-kick by Christian Eriksen.

Eriksen stepped up in the 96th minute to curl home into the top corner to complete a comeback victory for Inter against their bitter rivals AC Milan in what was an ill-tempered affair that saw Zlatan Ibrahimovic sent off for AC Milan.

Ibra had put the Serie A leaders ahead in the first half but his dismissal after the break saw Inter pile on the pressure – and they equalzsed through a Romelu Lukaku penalty on 71 minutes before Eriksen’s stunner.

Serie A 2020-21 Fixtures Released

Serie A Fixtures With Ball

The 2020-2021 Serie A fixtures list has been released and Andrea Pirlo’s first league match in charge of Juventus will be at home to Sampdoria as he looks to guide the club to a record 10th successive Serie A title.

Juventus start at home to Sampdoria before a daunting trip to the Stadio Olimpico to take on Roma. For Inter Milan, who look set to be Juventus’ toughest challenger for the title, they begin their bid away to newly-promoted Benevento.

The release sparked lots of interest in when Pirlo and Conte will go head to head but fans will have to remain patient with the first meeting not until January 2021.

New Serie A Season To Begin September 12

Serie A Fixtures With Ball

Serie A has announced that the 2020-2021 season will begin on September 12, decision that has upset Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis.

With five Serie A teams still involved in Champions League and the Europa League, there is a possibility that at least one Italian team will play its last game of the 2019-2020 season on August 23.

De Laurentiis feels that having a potential pre-season of only three weeks is not long enough and he feels that the 2020-21 season should start on October 4 instead.

Juventus Reach Coppa Italia Final

Coppa Italia Trophy

Thirteen-time winners Juventus reached the Coppa Italia final on the away goals rule at AC Milan’s expense as Italy’s football season restarted.

After drawing 1-1 in Milan on 13 February, Juve could not find the net in a semi-final second leg played behind closed doors in Turin.

Cristiano Ronaldo missed a penalty awarded for handball before Milan’s Ante Rebic was sent off following his 16th-minute foul on Danilo.

Juventus, under former Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri, will meet either Inter Milan or Napoli in Wednesday’s final in Rome.

Napoli take a 1-0 lead into Saturday’s Coppa Italia semi-final second leg.
