Ronaldo Situation In Madrid Getting Really Interesting

CRonaldo5The Cristiano Ronaldo situation is beginning to get very interesting.

AS in Spain has reported that Ronaldo has turned down Real Madrid’s latest contract offer and according to the Portuguese newspaper ‘A Bola, ’ Ronaldo will not renew his Real Madrid contract when it runs out in 2015.

Ronaldo has been unhappy in Madrid for the last 12 months. He doesn’t feel that the club supports him in his quest to win the Ballon d’Or like Barcelona does for Lionel Messi.

In response, Real Madrid have been turning on a press offensive to put pressure on Ronaldo to change his mind.

Last week Real Madrid President Florentino Perez told Cadena Cope about Ronaldo:

“I will do everything in my power to renew his contract.

“He has two years left on his contract, he is the best player in the world and we would like to give a boost to the team by keeping him as a leader and an emblem.

“I would not sell him for 1 billion euros,” Perez added. “We are not a selling club. He is a winner and he wants to win titles and Real Madrid are the right club for it.”

Today, Madrid assistant manager Aitor Karanka was quoted as saying:

“He will keep getting better. Here is the ideal place and for Real Madrid it is great to have him,” said Karanka.

There have been persistent rumours linking Ronaldo with a blockbuster move back to Manchester United this summer. Ronaldo is a still huge fan favorite at Old Trafford, and would be welcomed back with open arms, but the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson has put that move in doubt.

The other rumour that is circulating is that a French side (PSG or Monaco) have offered Ronaldo an incredible €60 million signing bonus if he leaves Real Madrid in two years on a free transfer. Then, Ronaldo will still only be 29, and in the prime of his career.

It will be really interesting to see how this plays out this summer. Does Perez and Real Madrid want every press conference for the next two seasons to be about Ronaldo’s contract situation? Or will they cash in on the Portuguese star and use the money to sign Suarez and Bale?
