Marek Hamsik’s Agent Says He Should Leave Napoli

Marek Hamsik’s agent Mino Raiola feels that the midfielder should leave Napoli as he has outgrown the Serie A.

The midfielder had declared earlier last month that,

“I’ve been here for six years, but I’m content.”

But his agent strongly believes that the Slovakian has learnt all he can from his stint in the Serie A and would be wise to seek a new challenge.

The money woes that have gripped Italy in recent months have also impacted Serie A clubs. In just the past couple of weeks Marco Verratti, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva have left Serie A to join noveau riche club Paris Saint-Germain. Former Napoli striker Ezquiel Lavezzi had also joined the French side earlier and Hamsik himself has been continually linked with Manchester City.

The 24-year-old had signed an extension to his contract earlier in April and Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis is especially keen to keep both the playmaker as well as star striker Edinson Cavani.

Nevertheless, Raiola feels as if the president does not know what’s best for the career of the Slovakian international and advised the player to move on to a different league in order to continue to challenge himself.

“Marek is a great player,” Raiola told Radio CRC.

“[But] if you feel like a great player then you have to test yourself in a new environment to prove your worth.

“Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis doesn’t agree, but I don’t agree with him. Presidents need to understand that they can’t squeeze every last drop out of a player.”

Here is the part that I don’t understand. Raiola, who coincidentally happens to be Ibrahimovic’s agent, was happy enough with Napoli and Serie A to have his client sign a new deal with Napoli four months ago! What has happened since to make him now believe that his client is too good for Serie A?
