Barcelona Still Linked With Neymar Summer Deal

Neymar PSG

Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar is the top transfer target for Barcelona this summer, according to both Diario Sport and El Mundo Deportivo.

Neymar failed in his attempts to force through a move back to the Catalan giants last year after becoming frustrated with life in Paris.

But according to the Spanish newspaper, Neymar is still determined to return to Barca amid a ‘climate of tension’ between him and his fellow Brazilian Leonardo.

The former Santos forward left the Camp Nou for Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2017 for a world record €222m fee, but reports continue to suggest he may be open to a departure from the Parisians.

Real Madrid With Massive Clasico Win

El Clasico In USA 2020

Real Madrid have returned to the top of La Liga thanks to a late 2-0 win over rivals Barcelona in tight El Clasico clash at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Vinicius Junior and Mariano Diaz’s goals took them a point clear of their bitter rivals at the top of the Liga table and gave them the better head-to-head record, which could be crucial in such a tight title race.

Certainly, there is little to choose between the two teams, as Sunday’s game showed. This entertaining, end-to-end battle at the Santiago Bernabeu between two clearly flawed teams could have gone either way.

Zidane ‘sorry’ for Ernesto Valverde After Barcelona Firing

Real Madrid Coach Zinedine Zidane has sympathy for former Barcelona Coach Ernesto Valverde after he was fired earlier this week after two-and-a-half years in charge at the Camp Nou. Quique Setien was appointed as his successor.

Zidane has reacted to the decision from their La Liga rivals, while also acknowledging that he is fully aware that he will come under similar pressure if results were to drop for Real Madrid.

“I’m sorry for him,” he told reporters, as quoted by Diario AS.

Quique Setien: Barcelona Job Beyond My Wildest Dreams

Quique-Setien Barcelona Manager

Quique Setien admits he could not have imagined managing the club ‘in his wildest dreams’ during his presentation conference.

The 61-year-old was appointed on Monday night by the club on a two-and-a-half year contract, following the dismissal of Ernesto Valverde.

Predominantly managing in the lower leagues until 2015, Setien led Las Palmas to 11th place in La Liga – their highest position in four decades – before being appointed at Real Betis in 2017.

He led the Seville-based side back into European competition in his first season at the helm before guiding them to the semi finals of the Copa del Rey last season.

Official: Barcelona sack boss Ernesto Valverde

Ernesto Valverde

The rumors were right as Barcelona have confirmed they have sacked Coach Ernesto Valverde after two-and-a-half years in charge of the club.

Valverde led the club to league titles in each of his two full seasons at the helm while also leading the club to the Copa del Rey crown in his first campaign at the helm and the Spanish Supercopa the following year.

In his first season at the club, Barcelona suffered only one league defeat – and after the title had already been won, with a 5-4 loss at Levante coming just days after the club had arranged a friendly match.

Barcelona Sack Ernesto Valverde

Barcelona have informed boss Ernesto Valverde that he has been sacked with now just an official announcement missing.

That is according to multiple reports including from ESPN and Catalunya Radio, who claim that the Coach was told at the club’s training facilities on Monday.

Reports say that Valverde has already cleared his belongings out of the club and will now be allowed to say his goodbyes to the staff and players.

It would be the first time that Barcelona have sacked a Coach in the middle of a season since Louis Van Gaal in 2003 – when they were 20 points behind Real Sociedad, and eventually finished sixth.

Barcelona Stay Top After 0-0 El Clasico Draw

Camp Nou

Barcelona and Real Madrid were unable to find a breakthrough as their anticipated El Clasico clash ended 0-0 at the Camp Nou.

The stalemate is the first time a game between the two sides has ended goalless since 2002, a run of 49 games in all competitions between the two great rivals.

The visitors dominated the opening stages, with Karim Benzema bringing a save from Marc Ter Stegen and Gerard Pique clearing Casemiro’s header off the line in a frantic opening.

Barcelona improved as the half wore on, with Sergio Ramos clearing a scuffed shot from Messi off the line, and Jordi Alba wasting a great chance went put through by the Barca skipper.

Champions League Knockout Draw Preview

Champions League Probability

Chelsea could well find themselves on a collision course with Barcelona in the last-16 of the Champions League with that the most likely outcome from Monday’s draw.

A calculation of the probabilities of each pairing shows that Liverpool and Manchester City are most likely to face a trip to Madrid to play either Real or Atletico.

Tottenham, meanwhile, will be thrilled if they avoid the likes of Barcelona, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain and pull out their most likely tie against Valencia.

The Twitter account LaLigaenDirecto, run by mathematics graduate Fran Martinez, has calculated the percentage chances of each club being drawn together in the last-16.
