La Liga Threatens Points Deductions If Clubs Refuse To Play After Coronarvirus

La Liga president Javier Tebas has reportedly told clubs they may be fined if they do not show up to play matches after the coronavirus pandemic.

The football calendar has been put on hold in Spain, but there is hope that it may resume in the coming months to see out the rest of the 2019/20 season.

Unsurprisingly, there are some concerns about returning too soon.

But Tebas has issued a very stern warning to clubs who opt against getting back into training and playing matches once again.

Gary Neville has slammed the Chelsea board for pursuing £75 million Philippe Coutinho amid the coronavirus crisis.

Barcelona have reportedly offered Chelsea the chance to sign former Liverpool playmaker Coutinho this summer. But Manchester United legend Neville says it is ‘illogical’ for Chelsea to even be considering transfer moves at a time when their current players could well be set to take pay cuts.

This week, it was reported that Chelsea players have agreed to take a 10 per cent pay cut as the club look to cut losses from lack of revenue during the coronavirus pandemic.

La Liga Players Oppose Plans To Restart Season In June

Plans to get Spanish football restarted in June are likely to face opposition from the country’s footballers.

The players union AFE are due to meet having been frozen out of the eight hour meeting at the weekend between the Spanish government’s Sports Council (CSD), the Spanish Football Federation, and La Liga.

That meeting was designed to bring together La Liga and the Federation after weeks of public bickering between the two. It worked with a joint statement issued promising greater collaboration, but now the governing bodies have to get players on board with the plan to restart the season on June 6.

La Liga’s season could be played out between Alfredo Di Stefano and Johan Cruyff if Barcelona join Real Madrid in playing their remaining fixtures in the stadium of their B-team.

Barca will consider playing their remaining LaLiga fixtures at the 6,000 capacity Johan Cruyff Stadium if Madrid go ahead with plans to play at the 6,000 capacity Alfredo Di Stefano stadium.

Both clubs feel that the psychological effect on players of playing without fans could be limited by playing in smaller arenas.

One of the stories of this summer’s transfer window is the future of Inter Milan’s talented young striker Lautaro Martinez.

One of the leaders in the worst-run category is Barcelona, who are going back to their players and asking them to take further wage cuts as Barca’s 2021-22 budget will be €200 million less than what it was this season.

The players have already agreed to take a 70% reduction to their monthly salaries to help Barca through this economic crisis, biut former vice president Emili Rousaud, who was a member of the board of directors until last week, told ESPN “the club’s proposal lacked ambition given the economic problems they will have to face.”

If football was to return to Spain this season it would be behind closed doors. And according to media reports, it would require player and staff from each of the 20 clubs to be isolated in hotels while matches are being played.

According to Diario Sport, the idea of being isolated in a hotel for weeks has not gone over well with Barcelona players,
