The two clubs need barely an introduction to anyone who follows soccer. Milan holds 18 domestic league and 7 Champions League titles. Real Madrid are no slouch, holding 32 La Liga titles (including the just completed 2011-12 season) and 9 Champions League titles.
The Milan side is expected to include Zlatan Ibrahimovic Robinho, while Madrid is home to superstars like Cristiano Ronaldo and Iker Casillas.
The match will be the second at Yankee Stadium this summer, following the Chelsea v PSG match on July 22nd. There is an interesting trend in touring teams using baseball stadiums this season, with CitiField, Fenway Park and Wrigley Stadium all hosting soccer games.
The Milan game will be Madrid’s third and final game in its U.S. tour. They start their tour against the LA Galaxy on August 2. They follow that with a game against Juventus on August 5 in Las Vegas and then end in New York against Milan.
So far Milan have only announced a game on July 28 against Chelsea in Miami and this Real Madrid game on August 8. That is a long time between games and I expect Milan to announce a third game on the east coast in the coming days.
