Manchester United is set to light up the United States this summer with a pre-season tour featuring high-profile clashes against their Premier League rivals, Arsenal and Liverpool, as well as a first time meeting with Spanish side Real Betis. The Red Devils’ return marks a consecutive summer showcasing their talent stateside, offering American fans another golden opportunity to witness their heroes in action.
The tour will kick off with a match against Arsenal in Los Angeles, set for Saturday, July 27, at the magnificent SoFi Stadium, known for its state-of-the-art facilities and 70,000-seat capacity.
Then United heads down the coast to San Diego where they will play Real Betis on July 31. The game will be staged at the 35,000-capacity Snapdragon stadium where United’s Under-21 side lost against Wrexham last July. Snapdragon will replace Team Viewer as United’s principal shirt sponsor from the start of next season which is why the game is being played in San Diego.
The excitement continues as United gears up to face Liverpool in a historic showdown at the University of South Carolina’s William Brice Stadium in Columbia on Saturday, August 3. This encounter, dubbed as English football’s most storied rivalry, promises to be a landmark event, being the most significant club football game to grace the 77,559-capacity stadium.
Reflecting on last year’s successful tour, where United played before a combined audience of 235,168 fans, the club anticipates another summer of packed stadiums and vibrant support. The anticipation is particularly high for the rematch with Liverpool, their first meeting in the US since the mammoth crowd of 101,000 in Michigan Stadium back in 2018.
John Murtough, Manchester United’s Football Director, expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming tour, highlighting the growing popularity of English football in the US and the warm reception from the passionate American fanbase. The tour is not only a chance for the first team to gear up for the 2024/25 Premier League season but also an opportunity for emerging Academy talents to step up and blend with senior squad members in some of the most iconic US venues.
