What Is Wrong With Lionel Messi?

messi_world-player-of-yearBarcelona have announced that Lionel Messi is a doubt for this weekends La Liga match against Malaga after being taken off at half-time of last night’s match against Atletico Madrid.

A statement on the Barcelona web site said:

Tests have revealed that the Argentinian has bruised the femoral biceps tendon in his left thigh. The FCB Medical Services have announced that they will be monitoring the player’s progress this week before deciding whether he will be fit to play on Sunday.

Is it time start to get worried about Messi’s injuries? Since getting injured on April 2 against PSG in the Champions League quarter-finals, Messi has only played 90 minutes ONCE in FIVE months!.

Messi barely played in Barçelona’s final 15 games of last season. The only match he played the full 90 minutes was the mauling that Barca received in the Allianz in the Champions League semi-final.

Messi was a sub with the Argentinean national team in June for the Colombia and Ecuador matches and was in the starting eleven for the friendly against Guatemala, scoring a hat trick, but not playing the full 90′.

Messi also missed the Pope Cup versus Italy earlier in the month due to a thigh muscle strain, although he did score two goals against Levante in the league last season.

There has to be some worried people inside the Camp Nou. Messi is the best player in the world, but after five months of chronic muscular injuries, will we seem him fully fit again?

Messi, like all of Barcelona’s players, has played a lot of games the last three season. Is playing basically three times a week for three plus season finally catching up on Messi?
