Wesley Sneijder: “I’m happy at Inter”

Last summer Wesley Sneijder was the subject of one of the most drawn out transfer sagas in football with rumours linking him to Manchester United not materialising to anything despite an entire year of speculation. Although I still think that is Eto’o had not been sold to Anzhi that Sniejder would have gone to United.

But anyway, the transfer talk seemed to unsettle Sneijder at the beginning of the season. Gian Piero Gasperini’s system did not help matters, no real place for Sneijder, as he did not seem to fit into Ranieri’s preferred style either. Combine that with ongoing injuries and Wesley Sneijder was a major disappointment last season.

But he seemed to show signs of his old self under Andrea Stramaccioni and he has now put the rumours to bed, insisting that he is enjoying life at Inter now after speaking with club president Massimo Morrati.

“I am fired up ahead of Euro 2012 and feel really good,” the 28-year-old told Tuttosport.

“Massimo Moratti’s words pleased me, as I’m sure next year will be a different story and the president will sign important players.

“In any case, I am happy at Inter and feel like part of the group.”

Moratti had earlier said of the Dutch playmaker:

“We see Sneijder as a player who can have a key role in Inter’s future, so there’s no problem there.”
