Is Cannavaro heading back to Juventus?

Fabio Cannavaro has admitted he would love to return to Juventus, despite a potential fans’ revolt.

Juventus fans were incensed when Cannavaro jumped ship and moved to Real Madrid following their demotion for their role in the 2006 match-fixing scandal. But Cannavaro doesn’t feel this would block his return to Turin when his Madrid contract expires in the summer.

“Everyone knows that I would return to Juve with joy in my heart because I had two beautiful seasons in Turin,” the World Cup winner told Tuttosport. “People expected me to stay (in 2006) but I’ve already explained a thousand times what happened. I am not worried. I will definitely talk with the fans.”

Fabio Cannavaro’s agent has confirmed his client is in talks with Juventus with a view to returning to Turin.

“A month ago, Juve contacted us about Fabio’s availability,” said Cannavaro’s agent Enrico Fedele. “Juventus has acted correctly and, as a sign of transparency, they contacted Real Madrid, because the player’s contract is coming to an end. Fabio would be very, very happy to return to Juventus with wages inferior to what he is actually earning.”

There has been speculation that Cannavaro wanted to return to his hometown club, Napoli. But club president Aurelio De Laurentiis has said the 2006 world player of the year is too old to play centre-back.
