Celtic out of Europe

Glasgow Celtic was stunningly knocked out of Europe after a terrible 2-1 loss to Danish minnows Aalborg.

The loss is the latest is a series of disappointing European road games for Celtic who have been unable to win away from home in 18 attempts in the Champions League.

The loss not only knocked Celtic out of the Champions League, but also of the UEFA Cup as Aalborg grabbed third spot in the group.

Celtic are one of the best supported teams in the world, but how long can Celtic fans be happy winning the league in Scotland and failing in Europe?

It has been a miserable season for Scottish teams in Europe this year as Rangers, Motherwell and Queen of the South all made no impact in their respective European ties.

In other Champions League action on Tuesday Manchester United and Villarreal draw 0-0 in Spain ensuring that both teams will advance to the knockout stages.

Real Madrid also secured their place in the knockout stages of the Champions League as they beat BATE Borisov 1-0. Real qualified after Zenit St Petersburg was held to a goalless draw by already-qualified Juventus.

Also booking their place in the knockout stages was Porto who beat Fenerbahce behind two goals by Lisandro Lopez.

Bayern Munich and Lyon have qualified from Group F and they will battle each other next month for top position in the group.

Bayern hammered Steaua Bucharest 3-0 on Tuesday night behind goals from Miroslav Klose and Luca Toni.
