Atletico Madrid Turn Down £52m From Chelsea

Atletico Madrid have turned down a £52 million double bid from Chelsea for Sergio Aguero and Diego Godin according to Atletico president Miguel Angel Gil.

Real Madrid were also after Aguero while Chelsea were the sole bidders for Uruguay defending Godin.

“In the last week we have received two offers,” he told the club’s website. “One from Real for Aguero for 45 million euros and the other from Chelsea for Aguero and (Uruguay defender) Diego Godin for 60 million (£52m). Atletico have said no to the two offers because they believe in these two players.”

After selling Simao Sabrosa and buying in Elias and Juanfran, Gil said there would be no more activity in the January transfer window.

Gil also backed under-fire Atletico coach Quique Sanchez Flores who led Atletico to victory in the Europa League final and runners-up spot in the Copa del Rey last season, but has seen his side struggle this season.

“Sanchez Flores will be coach until the end of the season. At the end of the campaign we will talk,” Gil said.
