Atletico Madrid Lands Diego to Spain While Hleb Leaves Barca

Atletico Madrid have signed Diego on loan while Barcelona’s Alexander Hleb replacing him at Wolfsburg.

Diego, 26, joined Wolfsburg from Juventus last summer but ran into trouble with the club’s hierarchy for disciplinary reasons. Wolfsburg have now confirmed he has now moved to Atleti for the coming season with Coach Felix Magath said:

“I’m convinced Diego will play an outstanding role in Madrid. I wish him all the best.”

Hleb, 30, was in the last year of his contract at the Nou Camp and he will see out the rest of it in Germany with Wolfsburg under Felix Magath who coached him during his time with Stuttgart from 2001-04.

The Belarusian has fallen completely out of favour under Pep Guardiola at Barcelona and was not even given a squad number this season. He has spent time out on loan with Stuttgart and with Birmingham.
