MLS to get $10M for Beckham

SI is reporting that Major League Soccer will receive $10 million for its agreement to extend David Beckham’s loan to AC Milan through the end of the season.

“We asked for $10 million, we got our $10 million,” MLS commissioner Don Garber said on Thursday.

The big question is how much of that $10 million was paid by Beckham himself. On this topic Garber was coy:

“We don’t know where it’s coming from, either. There’s a lot of different ways it could happen,” he said. “He can not get paid from Milan. Milan could pay us. He could pay them. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter.”

Beckham has the ability to terminate his contract with the Galaxy after the 2009 season. If he leaves to play in Europe before the 2010 World Cup, he always could return to MLS later.

“I don’t know if he’s going to leave after this season whether we would want him back,” Garber said.
