Good signing by Fiorentina who have picked up Villarreal striker Giuseppe Rossi for a reported €9.5m. The American born striker has signed a four-year deal reportedly worth slightly more than €2 million per season, plus bonuses.
The Viola confirmed on their website on Friday that they have reached an agreement with the Spanish club for the striker.
“ACF Fiorentina and CF Villarreal have reached an agreement for the transfer of player Giuseppe Rossi on a permanent deal, subject to the signing of the contract by the player.” violachannel.tv has announced.
Rossi has been out for 14 months, since tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during a game against Real Madrid in October 2011. He underwent surgery a day later, then tore the same ACL again and had another operation in April. He is expected to start playing again in March.
Fiorentina has been one of the biggest surprises of the first half of the Serie A season and is tied for third with Inter Milan, nine points behind leader Juventus.
I don’t expect Rossi to help Fiorentina much this season, but if can get back to his pre-injury form, this will be a terrific signing by the Viola.
