Dempsey In US Squad For World Cup Qualifiers

New Tottenham Hotspur signing Clint Dempsey has been included in Jurgen Klinsmann’s squad for the home and home games with Jamaica.

Dempsey has to be nowhere near match fitness after missing Fulham’s opening games as he tried to force through his eventful transfer to Spurs.

But with Landon Donovan and Michael Bradley missing from the squad due to injury, Klinsmann had no choice to include Dempsey, and also Carlos Bocanegra who went through a similar situation with Rangers, in his 25-man squad.

Other players selected on the team that was announced on Sunday were Tim Howard, Jozy Altidore, Geoff Cameron, Brek Shea and Joshua Gatt. Gatt, however, will not join the team as he suffered a hamstring injury in Molde FK’s game on Sunday afternoon.

The U.S.will take on the Reggae Boyz on Friday at Independence Park in Kingston before heading to Columbus Crew Stadium on July 11 for the two teams’ second Group A match against one another.
