Liverpool Are Champions Of Europe Once Again

Liverpool Six Times Winners

It was one of the worst Champions League finals in recent memory, but Liverpool fans will not care as they say their side beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 in Madrid to win their sixth European title. This title lifts Liverpool above Bayern Munich and Barcelona and behind only AC Milan and Real Madrid in the history of the world’s leading club competition

With neither side having played a match in three weeks due to the early end to the Premier League season, this pinnacle of European football looked at time like a preseason match with passes going astray and both sides resorting to 1980s long ball football.

Jurgen Klopp Gets Rid Of Nearly Man Label

Jurgen Klopp With Champions League Trophy

All week all we had heard about was that Jürgen Klopp could not win the big one. That after three cup final defeats at Liverpool on his CV that he was the “nearly man”. Great at winning semi-finals, but unable to win when the pressure was on.

On Saturday night in Madrid, Klopp got rid of that label for good after winning the biggest prize in club football. Klopp’s image will be paraded on the Kop among the icons of Bill Shankly, Bob Paisley, Joe Fagan and Rafa Benitez. He is one of the great ones now.

Manchester City Furious At UEFA Over Champions League Ban Leaks

Man City Ethiad Stadium

Manchester City are furious about the UEFA investigation into their financial dealings after reports emerged that they are facing a ban from the Champions League.

The Premier League champions could face heavy sanctions for alleged breaches of UEFA’s Financial Fair Play rules, with the New York Times revealing on Monday that members of the investigatory chamber of UEFA’s financial control board will push for a one-season ban from European football elite competition, probably in 2020-21.

Investigators have spent months reviewing evidence first detailed in a series of leaks and reported by the German publication Der Spiegel.

Will Man City Be Hit With Champions League Ban?

Champions League Trophy

Manchester City’s title celebrations have been tempered by news that UEFA investigators will push for a Champions League ban for alleged breaches of Financial Fair Play regulations.

Insiders at UEFA believe any potential ban would not apply until the 2020-21 season because the process is ongoing but it could coincide with a FIFA transfer ban over the signing of under-18 players.

A ban from the Champions League would certainly increase the pressure on Pep Guardiola to deliver the prize his employers covet most in the next campaign.

Pochettino Reduced To Tears As Spurs Reach Champions League Final

An emotional Mauricio Pochettino was reduced to tears on the pitch at the full-time whistle after Tottenham booked their place in the Champions League final.

Lucas Moura broke through in the 96th minute to score his and Spurs’ third on Wednesday night to complete an incredible comeback at the Johan Cruyff Arena.

After running onto the pitch, Pochettino collapsed to his knees in a heap before crying tears of joy after masterminding a stunning comeback from three-goals down with just 45 minutes of game-time to do so.

The Argentinian boss was unable to give his reaction immediately after the game before having to calm himself down the tunnel.

Will Valverde Lose Job Over Anfield Collapse?

Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde is ‘on edge of abyss’ following their Champions League humiliation at Liverpool, report Marca.

The report cites how the Barca considered firing Valverde after last season’s disastrous quarter-final exit of the competition at the hands of Roma.

That time, the Catalan giants blew a 4-1 first leg advantage to be eliminated 4-4 but the nature of their elimination to Liverpool this season now appears to be even more severe.

Leading 3-0 from the first leg, Valverde’s side were facing an injury-hit Liverpool side without star forwards Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino.

Liverpool Stun Barcelona To Reach Champions League Final

Jurgen Klopp hailed Liverpool’s ‘giants’ as they produced the greatest comeback in the club’s history to reach their ninth Champions League final.

Anfield has witnessed some extraordinary night in the past but this was on another level as they beat Barcelona 4-0; Divock Origi, who replaced the concussed Mohamed Salah, and substitute Gini Wijnaldum both scored twice to flatten the Catalans.

Few gave Liverpool a hope of overturning the 3-0 first leg deficit but they ran a staggering 122kms compared to Barcelona’s 105km and the second half was a one-way assault on Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s goal. Ernesto Valverde’s side could not withstand the tide that washed over them.
