I am stunned that Manchester United have given Nani a new five year contract with a pay raise!
Nani had fallen out of favor with Fergie and United tried to sell him last summer and again in January. With less than 12 months left on his current deal, I had expected United to finally sell the winger this summer instead of letting him walk for free in a years time.
Instead, rumours suggest that Nani’s new deal is worth £120,000 a week, which is a pay raise and I think makes him the third highest paid player at the club behind Rooney and van Persie.
“I’m really pleased Nani has re-signed for the next five years,” said manager David Moyes.
“He has great ability and experience beyond his 26 years. I’ve been impressed with his approach to training and look forward to working with him in the coming seasons.”
Nani said:
“Playing at United has been a fantastic experience for me. When I came to the club, I never imagined the success we have enjoyed. Training every day with top players who want to win trophies every year is a great motivation to me. I’m very happy that the new manager has shown this faith in me and I’m looking forward to helping the team compete for more honours this season.”
The last good season that Nani had was 2010/11. What has he shown since to have warranted a new deal, never mind a pay increase?
Another baffling decision by United in a week of them.
