Arsenal and Liverpool maintain lead a top Premier League

Oliver-GiroudTen-man Arsenal beat Crystal Palace 1-0 while Liverpool maintained their hold on second place as Luis Suárez hit a hat-trick as Liverpool were too good for West Brom.

It was a mixed 20 minutes for Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta as he scored a penalty to put Arsenal 1-0 at Palace before he was sent off for a professional foul on former Arsenal striker Marouane Chamakh. Wojciech Szczesny then made two fantastic saves to deny Palace before Olivier Giroud wrapped up all three points for the Premier League leaders when he headed home from an Aaron Ramsey cross three minutes from time.

The Gunners are two points clear of Liverpool, who thumped West Brom 4-1 at Anfielld. Luis Suárez was simply brilliant today, as eh got his first hat-trick in front of the kop. The Uruguayan international scored two inside the opening 18 minutes; a neat finish after nutmegging Jonas Olsson, and a thumping header from 15 metres. Suárez nodded in another to complete his treble before Daniel Sturridge wrapped things up with a lob. James Morrison’s spot-kick was scant consolation for West Brom.

Six points behind Liverpool are bitter rivals Manchester United who needed two late goals from Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez to beat Stoke City 3-2.

In the battle of American goalkeepers, Tim Howard saved a Christian Benteke penalty as Everton beat Brad Guzan’s Aston Villa 2-0., while Norwich v Cardiff ended goalless.

Finally Southampton terrific start to the season continued as Rickie Lambert and Jay Rodriguez scored as they beat Fulham 2-0 to move up to third place in the table.
