The USA will play Scotland on the 26 May in Jacksonville, Florida, as a warm-up match ahead of a 2014 FIFA World Cup™ qualifying opener against Antigua and Barbuda.
The Scotland match is the third friendly that the USA coach Jurgen Klinsmann has set up this summer to get his side ready for the beginning of World Cup qualifying. Four days after the Scotland game, the US will face Brazil in suburban Washington and four days after that match they face Canada in Toronto.
The USA plays its first CONCACAF semi-final group stage match against Antigua and Barbuda on 8 June in Tampa, Florida.
Jamaica and Guatemala are also in the group and only two teams will advance to next year’s final round of qualifying for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
“Our focus since last summer has been to prepare this team for World Cup qualifying,” US coach Jurgen Klinsmann said. “It’s critical that we start qualifying off on the right foot.”
The Americans are 1-3 with two drawn against Scotland in a rivalry dating to 1949. The last time the Tartan army was in the US was in 1996 when the Americans got this famous 2-1 victory.
