U.S. Gets Rare Win In Europe

Big night for U.S. soccer and the men’s national team won in Europe for the first time in 3 1/2 years, beating Slovenia 3-2. Yes that is not a misprint. The U.Sc. scored three goals tonight, more than doubling the number of goals that they had scored in the previous six games under Jurgen Klinsmann.

What was good about the goals for the U.S. was that they came from the goal scorers. Edson Buddle got the opener with Clint Dempsey and Jozy Altidore getting the others. If the U.S. is ever to compete on the big international stage they need to find a top quality striker who can score goals on a consistent basis. A la Javier Hernández for Mexico.

Altidore has the potential to develop into that top striker and it was really good to see him score tonight.

Against France, the U.S. played really well defensively so it was a little surprising tonight to see the U.S. have such a cavalier attitude towards defending, especially away from home. Timmy Chandler at left back looked great going forward, but defensively he was a mess tonight.

I was disappointed in the performance of Kyle Beckerman tonight. I thought he played ok against France but tonight he really poor defensively.

What did you think of the U.S. performance tonight?
