U.S. World Cup Campaign Begins With A Loss

Massively disappointing defeat for USA today in Honduras, in the opener of the final qualifying round for next year’s World Cup.

The U.S. took the lead in the match through Clint Dempsey, but could not hold the lead once again away from home and eventually lost 2-1.

The U.S., which had been 12-3-3 against Honduras, lost its final-round opener for the first time in five games since the “hexagonal” format was adopted in qualifying for the 1998 tournament

USA Roster:

GOALKEEPERS- Tim Howard, Brad Guzan, Sean Johnson

DEFENDERS- Tim Chandler, Fabian Johnson, Geoff Cameron, Carlos Bocanegra, Edgar Castillo Matt Besler, Omar Gonzalez, Brad Evans, Michael Parkhurst

U.S. to play Honduras and Holland

The United States Soccer Federation has announced two World Cup warm-up games for the U.S. next year.

First up for the U.S. national team will be Honduras at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California on Jan. 23. This date is not an official FIFA date, so none of the U.S. (or Honduras) players who play in Europe will playing.

However, the U.S. will just be finishing its annual January training camp right before the game, so this will be a great opportunity for some of the U.S.’s MLS stars to shine.
