Who will hang their heads in the second week of La Liga Primera Division football and who will rejoice down the road of victory. It’s still extremely early in the 2009/2010 campaign, but with all the football ahead let’s see who can get a head start on the rest of the league table.
Getafe was fabulous on the road in their first match against Racing Santander scoring more goals then any other road team with four total, but in week two of the year the schedule just got a lot tougher. Barcelona was able to showcase their new toy, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, in their debut match of the year against Sporting Gijon, but will the club remain consistent early on in the year or will they need time to adjust to the new season?
Sevilla is considered year-after-year one of the very best defensive minded squads. Sevilla has made themselves a home at the top of the La Liga table in recent years which was, ironically, an old spot for new boys Real Zaragoza. Zaragoza expects to remain on the top tier for years to come and a road win against a top five team would surely reintroduce them to the most competitive league in Spain.
With all the moves los galicticos made this off-season they will likely be a staple for our Matches of the Week segment. And with their first road trip comes a new and exciting challenge. Espanyol will debut in their beautiful new stadium with an even greater challenge. Minus their recently deceased team captain, Dani Jarque, Espanyol will play without their leader in front of a supportive home crowd for the first time since the tragedy occurred.
