David Villa Cannot Wait To Get Back On The Pitch

Barcelona forward David Villa says he is “desperate” to make his return to full training although reports in Spain suggest his comeback could be delayed.

Villa has been sidelined for six months with a broken tibia that he sustained in the World Club Cup last December. The Spain international believes he is close to being ready for pre-season training as his side look to wrestle the Liga title back of rivals Real Madrid.

However, a report in Marca claims the player and coach Tito Vilanova face an “anxious” wait for the latest test results that will determine how well his recovery has progressed.

Villa told Mundo Deportivo:

“This is the summer I have most desire for the holidays to end and to be able to go to work already. It is also the summer I have enjoyed least.

“I have passed a check-up with the Barcelona doctors and I am desperate to return to normal training with my team-mates, not training separately.”

Villa was also full of praise for his national colleagues after they retained the European Championship trophy in style at Poland and Ukraine.

“We have to be proud of this team,” he added. “You can play better or worse but this team always shows face. They are the only ones that have been capable of winning three consecutive major titles.”
