Bundesliga Recap: 1899 Hoffenheim Continues To Surprise

FC Schalke 3-0 Hannover 96

Captain Marcelo Bordon scored early and striker Kevin Kurányi added two more first-half goals as Shalke took three points from its match with Hannover 96.

VfL Wolfsburg 2-1 FC Köln

Two unanswered goals from Wolfsburg’s Christian Gentner and Zvjezdan Misimović proved too much for promoted side Köln.

Bayer 04 Laverkusen 2-3 Borussia Dortmund

Neven Subotić’s game winner in the early moments of the second half proved enough for Dortmund.  The 19-year-old Serbian American could play his international matches for one of three countries with America the current frontrunner as Neven has participated in the United States U-17 and U-20 squads.

Arminia Bielefeld 2-2 Werder Bremen

31-year-old striker Artur Wichniarek scored both of Arminia’s goals and 25-year-old Markus Rosenberg scored both of Bremen’s goals as the clubs battled to a draw.

FC Energie Cottbus 0-3 TSG 1899 Hoffenheim

Since financial backer Dietmar Hopp has taken over the club in the 90s, 1899 Hoffenheim has steadily climbed through the ranks of the Germany’s football leagues.  With the squad’s arrival this season in the Bundesliga, many predicted 1899 Hoffenheim to stumble.  Today there was reason only to celebrate as forward Vedad Ibišević scored twice against Cottbus.

Karlsruher SC 1-0 VfL Bochum

Defender Christian Eichner’s goal in the first half was too much for VfL Bochum to overcome as Karlsruher captured an important early three points for the 2008-2009 campaign.
