Spanish FA Make Controversial Champions League Decisions

La Liga Fixtures

The Spanish FA has confirmed its proposal on how to award European places in case the current La Liga season cannot be finished.

There are growing fears that the 2019/20 campaign will not be completed due to the indefinite suspension of football in Spain caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

As outlined by Marca and Cadena Cope, the Spanish FA say that the four Champions League places would go to the current top four in La Liga – Barcelona, Real Madrid, Sevilla and Real Sociedad.

La Liga Preview- The Title Contenders

La Liga Fixtures

La Liga has made a lot of headlines this summer, and many for the wrong reason. The main talking points have been Atletico Madrid and Barcelona’s legal dispute over Antoine Griezmann’s transfer, Eden Hazard’s eventual move to Real Madrid, Nabil Fekir’s shock decision to join Real Betis and Valencia managing to keep hold of their boss Marcelino Garcia Toral after a turbulent summer.

Despite the transfer window remaining open, the focus now switches back to the football and it promises to be one of the most intriguing seasons in recent years.

Giuseppe Rossi Set to Out for 10 Months

Bad luck never seems to stop arriving for Villarreal striker, Giuseppe Rossi, this season as the latest reports suggesting that he might need longer time to recover from his second ligament injury from the previously predicted six months.

According to reports, Rossi will most likely rest for about 10 months because of his current recurring injury because he apparently must get a second surgery after facing the first one last Friday.

Jozy Nets First La Liga Goal

On Sunday, Jozy Altidore subbed into the game into the 90th minute for Villarreal, and then promptly put the ball into the back of the net for his first goal on Spain’s biggest stage. Villarreal had already put the game away against Athletic Bilboa, but it was nice to see Jozy get a goal, even if it was mop up duty.

Jozy’s birthday is this Thursday. He’s turning 19. No, that’s not a typo. He just looks like a 25 year old.

La Liga Preview

Real Madrid’s second successive La Liga title came with the minimum of fuss, and although there was a slight stumble towards the end of the season, an eight point gap over Villarreal, coupled with a +48 goal difference, underlined their undoubted superiority.

Bearing this in mind, coach Bernd Schuster has been relatively quiet in the transfer market, with the recent signing of Dutch playmaker Rafael van der Vaart the most significant piece of transfer activity in or out of the Bernabeu.
