LLTO La Liga Tuesday Review

Atletico Madrid has struggled for positive results all this season.  Well they will be kicking themselves once again as they had a match in perfect position against Mallorca in extra time.  The squad achieved the draw though with a goal in the remaining minutes from Mallorca 1-1.  Sevilla proved once again to be an outstanding defensive minded squad against Espanyol.  Unfortunately, the offensive side of the ball could not get rolling and the match finished 0-0.

Sporting Gijon battled Real Madrid to a scoreless draw in their match as well which was surprising because both squads entered the match with such explosive offenses.  Villarreal won a game and I predicted it!  The odds of both these things happening are not very good, but the Yellow Submarines handed Malaga a loss making the lowly squad the worst in the league.  And the opposite of Villarreal ( a team that never loses at least in league play), Barcelona would stomp new boys Real Zaragoza with an embarrassing 6-1 route.  Ibs would score twice and Barca, simply, looks too good for anyone to stop in La Liga this season or even next season for that matter.

As for the rest of the league matches: In a battle of new boys Tenerife handed Xerez a 1-0 loss.  The game could decide both club’s fate at the end of the season.  Getafe worked Athletic Bilbao 2-0.  Both squads have struggled recently, but it seems pretty clear that Bilbao was pretenders early on in the 09 campaign.  Valencia was victorious over Almeria 3-1.  Racing and Osasuna achieved a 1-1 draw and Valladolid surprised everyone with a 4-0 win over fourth place Deportivo La Coruna.
