La Liga Review: Bale And Messi Both Score Hat-Tricks In Romps

gareth-bale-rmA roundup of all of Saturday’s action in La Liga, a day that saw hat-tricks by both Real Madrid and Barcelona’s stars.

Barcelona 4-0 Granada

As they so often do, Barcelona and Real Madrid spent Saturday trying to one-up one each other with goals galore. In the day’s first game, it was Lionel Messi — who else? — who bagged a hat trick (below videos) to send Barca to a resounding 4-0 home victory.

Arda Turan, who made his league debut for Barca after being forced to sit out the first half of the season due to the club’s transfer embargo, chipped in with the assist on Messi’s first goal. With the victory, Barca have snatched the league lead back from Atletico Madrid, who will attempt to do the same on Sunday.

Real Madrid 5-0 Deportivo La Coruna

The La Liga story of the day took place in the capital city, though, as Real legend Zinedine Zidane made his managerial debut at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, where Los Blancos cruised to a 5-0 victory on the back of a hat trick scored by Gareth Bale (below videos).

The victory keeps Madrid within touching distance of Barca at the top of the table (two points back), but also still a point behind their capital rivals, Atleti, for second. With Rafa Benitez now gone, Saturday’s atmosphere inside the Bernabeu was decidedly different than the entirety of his tenure. The fans were once again behind the team, and the football played before them was simply scintillating at times.
