Galaxy Stun Juventus While Madrid Beats Everton

InternationalChampionsCupLogoJuventus’s tour of the USA has gone from bad to worse and they followed up their defeat by Everton in San Francisco to shockingly lose 3-1 to the Los Angeles Galaxy last night.

With Donovan, Keane and Robbie Rogers working in concert, the Galaxy played probably their best game of the season, repeatedly controlling play and possession against the Italian champions.

Both teams had good chances early on, with Rogers constantly causing trouble for Juventus from the wing.

Los Angeles took the lead when Gonzalez left his defensive position and charged into the box, taking a pass from Juninho and chipping a goal over Gianluigi Buffon.

Juventus Adds Another Top Striker

Llorente-JuveYou have to admire the work that Antonio Conte and Juventus have done this summer.

Despite winning the Scudetto comfortably the last two seasons, Conte knew that if Juventus was to get back to its former glory, it had to be more competitive in the Champion League. And to do that, they needed to improve the quality of their striker.

Last week’s signing of Carlos Tevez from Manchester City for around €9m was the first step. And today Juve unveiled Spanish striker Fernando Llorente. Llorente joins Juve on a Bosman from Athletic Bilbao and should form a terrific partnership with Tevez.

Conte Unsure Of His Future At Juventus

ConteIt has been quite a rollar-coaster of a season for Juventus boss Antonio Conte. He spent the first four months of the season in the stands, due to a ban for failing to report a potential match fixing to authorities while he was at Siena. He always denied the charges, but assistants Massimo Carrera and Angelo Alessio had to take the bench during his suspension.

But since he has came back, Juve have been terrific and have dominated Italian football in Italy the last two seasons. But interestingly, after listening to Conte this week, he does not seem to be settling in to build a dynasty in Turin.

Bayern With One Step In Semis After Beating Juve 2-0

Arjen-robben 82Bayern Munich look set to make it three trips to the Champions League semi-finals in four seasons after ending Juventus’s 18-match unbeaten run in Europe.

Bayern could hardly have wished for a better start as David Alaba opened the scoring after just 25 seconds. Alaba shot left Gianluigi Buffon wrong footed as his long range shot took a deflection off Arturo Vidal. It was the first Champions League goal Juve had conceded in 490 minutes.

Juve showed their class though as they brushed off the early goal, and with their five-man midfield they started to grab a hold off the game and Andrea Pirlo clipped the crossbar with a dipping free-kick, with Vidal drove another effort narrowly wide.
