Manchester United Are Now A Mid-Table Club

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Jose Mourinho will return to Old Trafford for the first time as Tottenham manager on Wednesday night, and the former Manchester United boss could be forgiven for asking just how much has changed since he was axed a year ago this month.

United’s 2-2 draw with Aston Villa on Sunday left Mourinho’s successor Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with 18 points from 14 games and in ninth place in the Premier League table.

At the same stage last season, Mourinho’s side had 22 points and were in seventh after a 2-2 draw with Southampton. Even so, the Portuguese coach was two weeks away from the sack.

Manchester United are without a win in three Premier League matches and David de Gea cannot remember a more difficult period for the club

A nonplussed David de Gea believes Manchester United are enduring their “most difficult time” since his arrival in 2011.

The Red Devils suffered a third defeat in six Premier League matches on Sunday, as they went down 1-0 to Newcastle United at St James’ Park.

Matty Longstaff’s second-half strike proved the difference between the two sides, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men mustering just three shots on target.

Ole Looks Lost At United Lose Again

Manchester United are two points above the Premier League relegation zone after another loss, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer accepting the blame

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer acknowledged the responsibility for Manchester United’s poor form rests on his shoulders after they went down 1-0 away to Newcastle United.

Solskjaer’s side fell to a third Premier League loss of the season and are 12th in the table, only two points clear of the relegation zone, having scored just nine goals.

United have only taken 17 points from 16 games since his permanent appointment in March after he initially impressed as Jose Mourinho’s successor on a temporary basis, with Solskjaer accepting he needs to turn things around.

Ole: Greenwood Vindicates Lukaku Sale

Mason Greenwood Manchester United

Mason Greenwood has proved it was the right decision to let Romelu Lukaku leave Old Trafford, according to Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Greenwood, 17, became the youngest United player to score in Europe with the winner in a 1-0 victory against FC Astana in the Europa League on Thursday night and Solskjaer believes the club’s decision to let Lukaku move to Inter Milan without signing a replacement has been justified.

“For me it was the right decision for the club,” Solskjaer told a news conference. “He is going to be important for us this season. He’s not played a lot so far, but he’ll get minutes.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Unimpressed With Manchester United Win

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer delivered an honest assessment of his Manchester United side after a crucial win against Leicester City. Marcus Rashford’s eighth-minute penalty eased the pressure on the Norwegian and lifted his side into the top four.

But United’s manager admitted a 1-0 was far from convincing against a Leicester side that dominated possession for long periods at Old Trafford.

Solskjaer said: “Let’s not kid ourselves, we didn’t play a great game. The first 25 minutes were fantastic, but we gradually lost control. Then towards the end we were in control.

Tough Europa League Draw For Manchester United

Manchester United face a gruelling Europa League group campaign with trips to Astana and Partizan Belgrade, while last season’s runners-up Arsenal will face Eintracht Frankfurt.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, who finished sixth last season in a disappointing Premier League campaign that included Jose Mourinho’s sacking in December, have a tough schedule in Europe’s secondary competition.

They face Astana, Partizan Belgrade and AZ Alkmaar in Group L, while Arsenal are in Group F and face Frankfurt, Standard Liege and Vitoria.

Ole Under Pressure Already As Manchester United Lose At Home

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Another penalty miss cost Manchester United dearly on Saturday but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was left baffled as to how his side did not get two more spot-kicks before being stunned 2-1 by Crystal Palace.

Patrick Van Aanholt’s stoppage-time winner gave Palace their first league win at Old Trafford since 1989, with United left to rue Marcus Rashford’s missed penalty, which span across the face of goal after striking the left-hand post just after the hour.

Rashford had replaced Paul Pogba on penalty duties after the France midfielder missed from the spot in Monday’s 1-1 draw at Wolves, but he recorded his first miss from the spot in professional football.

Most Valuable Players In World Football

The Football Observatory has updated their list of the most valuable players in the world and it has a very English flavor to it, with seven of the top 10 players either being English or they play in the Premier League.

That is a huge turnaround from even three years ago, when the list was dominated by La Liga stars.

The three most valuable players are all forwards: Kylian Mbappé (€252M), Mohammed Salah (€219M) and Raheem Sterling (€208M).

Is Alexis Sanchez Heading To Serie A?

alexis sanchez Manchester United

Alexis Sanchez wants a Manchester United escape over the next fortnight in pursuit of first-team football.

The Chilean, who trained with the United squad on Wednesday, has made just four Premier League starts since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over last December.

Solskjaer insisted last week that he expects Sanchez to stay at Old Trafford but the 30-year-old has an eye on Italy before the European transfer window closes on September 2.

Sanchez’s agent, Fernando Felicevich, met with Juventus earlier in the summer, while Napoli and AC Milan also hold an interest.
