Klopp Says Liverpool Can Handle Pressure At Top Of Premier League

Jurgen Klopp backed Liverpool to handle the pressure of their huge lead as they took another huge step towards their first league title for 30 years by winning 4-0 at Leicester.

Roberto Firmino struck twice while substitute James Milner scored a penalty and the outstanding Trent Alexander-Arnold was also on target as Leicester had no answer to Liverpool’s dominance.

The Reds are now 13 points clear of second-placed Leicester, although Manchester City can go second – albeit with an 11-point gap – if they win at Wolves on Friday. Liverpool’s win was particularly impressive as it came only five days after they beat Flamengo to win the Club World Cup in Qatar.

Klopp Hit Outs At Premier League Fixtures

Jurgen Klopp

Jurgen Klopp has described the Premier League’s holiday schedule as a ‘crime’ even though the Liverpool manager admits he has benefitted from the Christmas fixture list.

Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola has been openly critical of a programe that gives Liverpool an extra 24 hours’ rest between Boxing Day’s trip to Leicester and Liverpool’s home clash with Wolves on Sunday.

The defending champions are forced to play on Friday and Sunday, meaning they will kick off their second game less than 48 hours after their first – and Klopp has backed his rival’s complaints.

Liverpool Are World Champions

Liverpool World Champions

Jurgen Klopp has urged his players to savour their ‘sensational’ Club World Cup success but admits they were left ‘exhausted’ following their extra-time victory over Flamengo.

Roberto Firmino’s 99th-minute strike secured victory for the Reds against the Copa Libertadores champions in Doha on Saturday, meaning the Merseyside club become just the second English side to lift the trophy in the competition’s history.

It completes a clean sweep of continental trophies for Liverpool in 2019 following their victories in the Champions League and European Super Cup.

With the side currently 10 points clear at the top of the Premier League, a first league title since 1990 is also tantalizingly within reach next May.

Klopp Praises Alisson As Liverpool Reach Club World Cup Final

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has paid tribute to his goalkeeper Alisson Becker after the Brazilian delivered a match-winning display against Monterrey on Wednesday.

The Reds had to rely upon their goalkeeper in the Club World Cup semi-final, as Alisson came up with several big stops against the Mexican side in Qatar.

Naby Keita gave Liverpool the lead in the 11th minute after a tremendous pass from Mohamed Salah, but Monterrey struck back just three minutes later through Rogelio Funes Mori.

From there the CONCACAF champions gave Liverpool all they could handle, forcing several key saves from Alisson as Klopp’s side barely managed to stay level.

Champions League Knockout Draw Preview

Champions League Probability

Chelsea could well find themselves on a collision course with Barcelona in the last-16 of the Champions League with that the most likely outcome from Monday’s draw.

A calculation of the probabilities of each pairing shows that Liverpool and Manchester City are most likely to face a trip to Madrid to play either Real or Atletico.

Tottenham, meanwhile, will be thrilled if they avoid the likes of Barcelona, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain and pull out their most likely tie against Valencia.

The Twitter account LaLigaenDirecto, run by mathematics graduate Fran Martinez, has calculated the percentage chances of each club being drawn together in the last-16.

Jurgen Klopp Signs New Contract At Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp With Champions League Trophy

Jurgen Klopp has handed Liverpool a huge boost after he signed a contract extension that will keep him at the helm until 2024.

The best manager in world football at the moment, had two-and-a-half years left on those terms but it has always been the intention of Fenway Sports Group to reward the outstanding work Klopp has overseen.

It was first made clear to Klopp in the build up to the club’s Champions League triumph in June that FSG would be prepared to give him whatever kind of contract he wanted but during the summer he made it clear there was no hurry to make a decision.

Liverpool Blow As Fabinho Out Until Next Year

Fabinho Liverpool

Huge blow for Liverpool as midfielder Fabinho has been ruled our out until next year with the ankle injury he suffered against Napoli.

The Brazilian, who Jurgen Klopp refers to as his ‘Dyson’, had to be replaced after just 18 minutes of the match after falling awkwardly while challenging for the ball and was seen after the match wearing a protective boot.

It is a blow for Klopp, with his side currently two games into a run of 14 matches in just 43 days, including a run of 10 games between now and the end of December.

Was Ballon d’Or Winner Leaked?

Messo baoon-dor

Lionel Messi is set to win a record sixth Ballon d’Or award and the Barcelona superstar has already been informed of his achievement, according to reports in Spain.

Mundo Deportivo claims that the Argentine has already been told of his win, even though the awards ceremony is on Monday, December 2, and that a team from France Football magazine travelled to Barcelona to tell the 32-year-old.

Messi is on a three-man shortlist for this year’s gong alongside his perennial rival Cristiano Ronaldo and Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk.

Seven Liverpool Players Nominated For Ballon D’Or

Liverpool Ballon D'Or Nominations

Jurgen Klopp believes Liverpool’s seven Ballon d’Or nominees is the surest indication his club have re-established themselves as a leading European force.

Liverpool’s manager has always spoken about his desire to make Anfield the final destination of a player’s career rather than a stopping-off point en route to Barcelona or Real Madrid, and the progress over the past two years firmly indicates Klopp is succeeding.

Central defender Virgil van Dijk is the odds-on favourite to win the prestigious award in December — the Premier League has not had a representative in the final three since Fernando Torres in 2008. With him on the 30-man shortlist are Alisson, Roberto Firmino, Giorginio Wijnaldum, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Sadio Mane and Mo Salah.

Klopp Fumes Despite Another LIverpool Win

Jurgen Klopp said he could not enjoy Liverpool’s late win over Leicester after Hamza Choudhury’s foul forced Mohamed Salah to hobble off.

The Leicester midfielder scythed down the Liverpool forward to prevent him taking a clear route to goal in the final minute of the game at Anfield, and was given a yellow card, while Salah, after playing on for several minutes, left the pitch in visible pain, with his longer-term condition as yet unknown.

Liverpool went on to keep up their winning streak for a 17th Premier League game but, after the match, a sullen-looking Klopp fumed at Choudhury – whose red-card foul on Matt Ritchie in August left him on the sidelines for two months.
