I am happy to say that we are only one week away from the start of Spain’s La Liga Primera Division season. And let’s be honest. We have all been anxiously awaiting the start of La Liga this season a little more then the usual calender year. And surprisingly it isn’t because of the rapidly approaching World Cup. La Liga is heading into the most significant year of the respected divisions history. Last season marked the first time a Spanish team has ever accomplished the treble. Barcelona heads into this season not only the best club in the world, but in a position never experienced before in the Spanish League. Can they pull off the impossible two years in a row? We will have to wait and see.
The real story this off season though was not focused on Barcelona (although they did acquire one of the best players in the world), but on rivals Real Madrid. Coming off of a disappointing finish last year, new president (and old president too) Florentino Perez is bringing back the galacticos approach of signing every star player possible to the struggling squad. Having brought in Ronaldo, Kaka, Benzema, and Alonso the squad burnt a gaping hole in their pocket and hope to buy a productive offense this season. It will be interesting to see what the club does with it’s existing stars like Raul and Ruud Van Nistelrooy. Is there enough space for all of these goal scorers?
So this season has the perfect background stories. One club was the best in the world last year and the other had the best off season in football history. Who will win it all this year? Find out over the next two weeks who is La Liga’s best clubs and players and also find out who is going to be the biggest busts of 2009/2010.
