PSG In Crisis?

That is what Paris Saint-Germain boss Carlo Ancelotti says after the big-spending Ligue 1 club lost to Rennes at the weekend. The defeat dropped PSG to third in the league and afterwards Ancelotti blasted his side for their poor performance.

It is the way that PSG are playing that has to worry Ancelotti. Saturday’s loss, their second straight home defeat, came despite Rennes playing most of the second half with nine men and a third-choice goalkeeper

Ancelotti knows his side quickly need to raise their game ahead of tomorrow’s UEFA Champions League clash against Dynamo Kiev.

“It is unbelievable. Our attitude out there was not good,” Ancelotti told www.ligue1.fr.

“We have just lost two games at home and that is unacceptable for a team that wants to win the league. We are yet playing as a team and we are going through a bad spell. We have to change things and I am going to change things. We need to be more concentrated, more determined and harder. It is not right.

“We need speed and intensity. I am not scared to say it; we are in a crisis. We have to emerge from it quickly. If we show character and professionalism we will pull through.”

PSG were expected to walk Ligue 1 this season and after big home wins against Dynamo Kiev and Dinamo Zagreb, PSG were expected to also be a major contender for the Champions League this season.

Instead PSG face the prospect that a defeat against Dynamo Kiev and then at home next month against Porto could see the French giants stunningly out of the Champions League.

I cannot see that happening though. PSG is side without confidence at the moment, and the best cure for that is a winning streak.

If the Zlatan Ibrahimovic that beat England last week shows up on Wednesday, PSG gets the win they need and suddenly the future looks a lot brighter. Because nobody wants to have to go into that Porto game needing a win to advance.
