Will PSG Smash Transfer Record To Sign Lionel Messi?

messiAccording to reports out of France, mega-rich Paris Saint-Germain are seriously looking into the possibility of a world record move for Barcelona and Argentina star Lionel Messi.

According to Le Parisien, the relationship between Messi and Barcelona is not good at the moment and that the forward is unhappy with Javier Faus’ comments about his contract renewal.

PSG is one of the few clubs in the world that can afford Messi’s release clause of £250m. The clause has been met a couple of times in the past, but Messi rejected any thought of a transfer to of hand. But this time PSG are confident that Messi will at least hear their side of the story.

PSG already have Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Edinson Cavani, and the idea of adding Lionel Messi to that pair, would make PSG instant favorites to win the Champions League.

There is also a subplot to this story in that PSG and Barcelona don’t like each other. PSG are upset with Barca over their constant public tapping up of defender Thiago Silva. This is a common Barcelona tactic, but PSG have the deepest pockets in world football and they will not be pushed around by anyone as PSG president Sheikh Nasser Al-Khelaifi indicated recently when he told ActuSports.fr:

“If Barca pay the buy-out clause of Thiago Silva then I will meet Messi’s buy-out clause.”
