You know something remarkable happened when for the second time in a month, national sports talk radio was talking about soccer for the second time in a month.
The occasion was the Women’s World Cup and the USA’s remarkable come from behind victory over Brazil on Sunday. Down 2-1, and with almost the last kick of the game, Amy Wamback popped up to score the equalizer for the U.S. and send the game into extra time.
It brought back memories of Landon Donovan’s dramatic goal for the U.S. men at last summer’s World Cup in South Africa. Two, late dramatic goals that captured the imagination of sports fans across the country.
The U.S. women play France in the semi-finals and with host nation Germany and Brazil out of the tournament, it will be a major disappointment if the USA does not win the World Cup.
Highlights of the game are below and if you have not seen them, I encouraged you to pull up your chair and sit back and enjoy.
