Valencia To Tour USA This Summer

Valencia have announced that they have agreed to a post-season tour of the USA with games against the Portland Timbers on May 23 and the Houston Dynamo on May 31.

“This is another step forward for the expansion of the club in which we work,” Valencia president Manuel Llorente said. “It is a source of great pride that the MLS is welcoming Valencia CF, and likewise that two cities with such a great footballing tradition as Portland and Houston are hosting us.”

Valencia likely won’t be traveling with a full squad since several players could be with their national teams preparing for this summer’s European Championship in Poland and Ukraine. Forward Roberto Soldado, who had a hat trick in Spain’s 5-0 win over Venezuela last month, is one of them.

The game in Houston will be in the Dynamo’s new stadium,  BBVA Compass Stadium

“Valencia’s a club with a great tradition and strong history,” Dynamo president Chris Canetti told MLSsoccer.com by phone. “A goal of the BBVA Dynamo Charities Cup has been to bring in marquee names and brands from all over the world. We took a big step forward with Bolton last year and we’re taking a greater leap forward in the new stadium with Valencia.”
