Valencia Get Huge Champions League Win

Jonas scored the second fastest goal in Champions League history and Valencia beat Bayer Leverkusen 3-1 to pick up a crucial Group E victory Tuesday.

With just over ten seconds on the clock Jonas calmly capitalised on a terrible clearance from Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno to give Valencia the dream start that they had been looking for.

With the crowd rocking I expected Valenica to go on an win easily, but they let their guard down defensively and allowed Michael Ballack, whose black protective face mask made him look like an extra from Phantom of the Opera, much too much time to pick up Kiessling with this cross and we were all tied at one apiece.

With the game hanging in the balance, it was Valenica who got the breakthrough in the 65th minute when Jérémy Mathieu powered down the left and Soldado just managed to get ahead of Michal Kadlec to flick the ball under Leno.

Valenica killed any hope of a Bayer comeback ten minutes later when Costa’s corner dropped nicely for Rami to stoop and glance a header past Leno. Pablo Piatti nearly added a fourth in the final seconds, but a rousing night for Valencia was already complete.

With their first Champions League win of the season, Valencia are third in their group, one point behind second place Bayer and 2 points behind leaders Chelsea. Next up for Valencia is a home tie with Genk while Chelsea travel to Germany.
