Spurs Finally Sell Modric To Real Madrid

It has taken all summer, but Tottenham Hotspur have finally agreed to sell Luka Modric to Real Madrid for a fee in the region of £30m. Considering that is what Madrid offered for Modric two months ago, you have to wonder what Daniel Levy’s strategy was here, and what impact it has had on Spurs slow start to the season?

Tottenham also announced they are entering a partnership with Real Madrid. The agreement will see the two clubs working together in respect of players, coaching and commercial relationships.

“Luka has been a terrific player for us and, while we preferred not to part with him, we are pleased that it is to Real Madrid, a club with which we now look forward to sharing a long and productive partnership,” said Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez Rodriguez added:

“We are delighted to welcome Luka and look forward to working closely with Tottenham in the coming years.

The question from Spurs fans will be how will they invest the Modric money in the squad? With Michael Dawson in talks with QPR over a move and Tom Huddlestone expected to join Stoke on loan, AVP will have around £50m to spend on new players this week.

Tottenham have already made three signings this summer, with Emmanuel Adebayor moving from Manchester City for £5m, midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson joining from Hoffenheim and Jan Vertonghen signing from Ajax.

Spurs have had an £11.8million bid rejected by Shakhtar Donetsk for midfielder Willian this morning, while Tottenham scouts watched France striker Loic Remy on Sunday, which is another area that AVB will want to strengthen.

As for Real Madrid they want got the one player they have been after all summer. But I not sure why Jose Mourinho has fallen so in love with Modric. Yes he is a nice player, but he plays the same position as Alonso. And if Modric pushes forward he runs in Di Maria, who us a terrific player.

So a strange transfer for both clubs. Real Madrid because I don’t think they needed Modric, and Spurs because they could have got this same deal two months ago.
