Liverpool 1 Chelsea 0

King Kenny continues to work his magic as a Raul Meireles goal so Liverpool beat Chelsea 1-0 ay Stamford Bridge. Liverpool are now only six points back of Chelsea for that final Champions League spot as they remarkable revival under Kenny Dalglish continues.

The build-up to the match at Stamford Bridge had focused on the first appearance in a Chelsea shirt of Fernando Torres, but Torres was poor as he was surprisingly substituted by Carlo Ancelotti before Liverpool scored on 69 minutes.

Meireles popped up at the far post to volley in his fourth goal in five league matches, after Petr Cech and Branislav Ivanovic had failed to deal with Steven Gerrard’s right-wing cross.

Liverpool fully deserved the win as Chelsea’s title hopes are all but over as they remain 10 points behind Manchester United with 13 games to go.

Earlier in the day, Birmingham City moved out of the relegation zone thanks to a 1-0 victory at West Ham. Though new West Ham signing Demba Ba hit the woodwork late on, Nikola Zigic’s second-half goal was enough to move the visitors on to 27 points, three clear of the last-placed Hammers.
