Is Modric Transfer Saga Nearing Its End?

It has dragged on all summer, but it appears that the Luka Modric transfer from Tottenham Hotspur to Real Madrid is finally going to happen.

Reports in Spain say that Real Madrid President Florentino Pérez has raised his offer for Modric to €32 million plus a series of performance-related payments which would be for between €6 and €8 million putting the final value at €40 million which is close to the value that Tottenham have placed on the midfielder.

Expect that as part of the addons that Real Madrid will play a high profile friendly in London next summer against Spurs, similar to what they did this season against Sporting Lisbon as part of Ángel Di María’s transfer fee.

Modric is away on international duty at the moment and Croatia national team coach, Igor Stimac, revealed that he thought Modric was in good spirits but not fit.

“I’m happy for Modric because he’s going to end up playing at Real Madrid but I’m not happy because he’s not in peak condition. We all know he’ll go to Real Madrid but right now I want to get the most out of him”, he said.

The Modric move will have a trickle down effect at Real Madrid. His arrival will certainly lead to the departure of Kaka (heading to AC Milan) and Nuri Sahin to either Liverpool or Arsenal on loan.
