Barcelona Smashes Records

At the halfway point of the La Liga season, Barcelona are breaking record after record. They extended their unbeaten streak to a club-record 28 games, defeating Malaga 4-1 Sunday night to open a four-point lead in the Spanish league over second-place Real Madrid, which was held to a surprising 1-1 tie at last-place Almeria.

Barcelona set a Spanish league record with 52 points at the season’s halfway point, two more than the mark Barcelona set two years ago. Real Madrid is second with 48 points.

Barcelona is 23-0-5 since a 2-0 league defeat to Hercules on Sept. 11 and surpassed the previous club unbeaten mark set in 1973-74. Barcelona’s 17 wins at the midpoint broke the record Real Madrid set in 1960-61

With 13 consecutive La Liga wins, Barcelona is two shy of the record held by Real Madrid since 1960-61. Barca have outscored opponents 61-11 in the league and are on pace to break the record of 107 set by Real Madrid in 1989-90.

After such an amazing first-half of the season it will be  a major upset if Barcelona do not win the La Liga title and the Champions League.
