Villarreal have announced that striker Nilmar will undergo an operation on a right knee cyst on Tuesday in Barcelona.
No details were given about his expected recovery time, or whether he will be available for the trip to Getafe on October 15 after the international break.
The 27-year-old, who has scored two goals in four league appearances this season, was left out of the squad for Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Real Zaragoza.
Juan Carlos Garrido’s side have suffered a disappointing start to the season, winning just one of their opening six games in La Liga and losing both of their two Champions League Group A matches against Bayern Munich and Napoli 2-0.
