Villarreal CF, or more frequently Villarreal, is a Spanish football club playing in La Liga, the first tier of Spanish football with its home games in the El Madrigal stadium. Vila-real is a city in the province of Castellón in Valencia. Villarreal is not one of Spain’s fashionable clubs, such as Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid or Barcelona, but still manage to compete with them on a season-by-season basis.
The club is nicknamed El Submarí Groguet or El Submarino Amarillo (Yellow Submarine) due to its yellow home kit.
Rivalries
Villarreal has a long rivalry with Castellón for geographical reasons, since both are from the province of Castellón. They are also rivals to Valencia, since the two had been the most competitive teams of the Valencian Community; this clash is called the “Derby de la Comunitat.”
A Fan’s Experience of Going to the Estadio de la Cerámica
As a soccer fan, there are few experiences more thrilling than going to see a match in person. I recently had the opportunity to do just that when I traveled to Spain to watch Villarreal, play at their home stadium, the Estadio de la Cerámica. Here’s what the experience was like.
Getting There
The Estadio de la Cerámica is located just outside of Villarreal’s city centre, which made getting there relatively easy. We took a bus from the main square and were dropped off right outside the stadium. If you’re driving, there are plenty of parking spaces available for a reasonable fee. Just be sure to get there early as they tend to fill up fast!
Tickets and Seating
Tickets for Villarreal games can be purchased online in advance or at the stadium on match day. We opted to buy our tickets on Matchday so we could explore the stadium and soak up the atmosphere before finding our seats. The stadium is divided into four sections—norte, sur, este, and oeste—so it’s easy to find your way around. Our seats were in the oeste section and had a great view of the pitch. As an FYI, Villarreal tickets are available to purchase via our Villarreal tickets partner Sports Events 365.
Atmosphere
As soon as I arrived at the stadium, it was clear that this was going to be a different experience from anything I’d ever experienced before. The first thing that struck me was the size of the stadium; it was absolutely massive! he second thing that struck me was the atmosphere inside the stadium; it was electric! Everyone around me was so passionate about their team and truly invested in the match. It was an amazing feeling to be surrounded by so much positive energy.
The atmosphere inside the stadium was electric! chants of “Vamos Vila!” rang out throughout the game. The ceramics-themed murals around the stadium added to the unique atmosphere, making it clear that we were in Villarreal territory.
It was an incredible experience and one that I would recommend to any soccer fan looking for a unique game day experience. If you’re lucky enough to find yourself in Villarreal on a match day, be sure to stop by the Estadio de la Cerámica and cheer on El Submarino Amarillo!
