Lucas Perez completes transfer to Arsenal

Emirates_NightThree games into the new season and Arsenal have finally signed a new striker, 27-year-old Lucas Perez from Deportivo La Coruna.

The Spaniard netted 17 goals in La Liga last season and got 19 in all competitions, equalling the club record set by Brazilian forward Bebeto.

The striker becomes Arsene Wenger’s fifth signing of the summer transfer window following the arrivals of Granit Xhaka, Takuma Asano, Rob Holding and Kelechi Nwakali. Vale.ncia centre-back Shkodran Mustafi is expected to be announced as the club’s sixth summer acquisition later today

Wenger is delighted to have signed someone, and highlighted his latest signing’s ability to link with other players on the pitch and is looking forward to working with Perez.

Wenger told the Arsenal official website: “He’s not only a goalscorer, he’s a guy who combines well with partners, who can give a final ball and makes good runs”.

“He’s got a good eye for goal and had an outstanding season last year.”

Perez is not going to make the difference between Arsenal winning the title or finishing in the top four because he is not the clinical type of striker that Arsenal need.

Perez has never shown a level of consistency in front of goal that he did last season, with his 17 in the league easily the most of his career.

Which puts him in good company with the rest of the Arsenal striker. Giroud, Walcott or Welbeck are all inconsistent. Just as capable as scoring a hat-trick as not scoring for a month. The only proven goalscorer Arsenal have is Alexis Sanchez and Wenger prefers to play him out wide instead of through the middle.
